Graying hair is a natural occurrence that goes along with the aging process. Several factors indicate an individual's likelihood of going gray. Genetics, stress, environmental concerns and health are all among the reasons for hair color transformation and can cause graying to occur earlier in life than expected. There are some people who just lie back and grow old gracefully, while others want to keep their youthful appearance by hiding the gray hair. There are some steps you can take at home to lose the gray without worrying about harsh chemicals in hair dyes.
Step 1
Eat a healthy diet rich in B vitamins, copper, iron, iodine and zinc. Seafoods such as fish, crab and oysters contain the necessary minerals for healthy hair and the diminishing of gray hairs. Carrots and bananas offer iron and iodine to assist in retaining and replacing lost pigmentation in the hair follicle, while B vitamins are best consumed through a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Step 2
Apply a hair mask of olive oil, avacado or banana once a week. This will keep the hair moisturized and boost melanin production in the hair shaft. Melanin is the necessary pigment found in the hair and skin responsible for color and tint.
Step 3
Limit intake of carbohydrates found in pastas, breads and potatoes. These foods cause slower digestive processes and limit the amount of vitamins and minerals used to prevent gray hair. Lowering consumption of these foods will boost melanin and allow for vitamins and minerals to be distributed through the hair follicle without restriction.
Step 4
Drink plenty of water and vegetable and fruit juices. Water cleanses your body of toxins and harmful bacteria that could lead to premature graying, while juices provide antioxidants to support healthy immune function and melanin production.
Step 5
Boil curry leaves in coconut oil and apply to the hair and scalp once cooled. Curry provides stimulation the the hair follicle and helps restore melanin, while coconut oil adds moisture back into the hair, providing shine and softness.
