Golf is a game that many people take up at various stages throughout their life. Some start as children or teenagers, many start in their young adulthood, others start in middle age and some even pick up the game as senior citizens. The first thing golfers learn how to do is grip the club correctly. While most golfers use an overlapping grip, it is not the only way to hold on to the golf clubs.
Overlapping Grip
This is the most popular grip in the game. Grasp hold of the club at the top of the grip area with your left hand (for a right-handed golfer). Take the small finger of your right hand and place it in the gap between the forefinger and middle finger of your left hand. Align both thumbs down the shaft of the club. This grip tends to give the golfer more accurate shots.
Interlocking Grip
Take hold of the club at the top of the grip area with your left hand (right-handed golfer). Take the small finger of your right hand and put it underneath the forefinger of your left hand. Then align your thumbs down the shaft of the club. This grip is often favored by big hitters because the two hands interlocked together creates more pressure and force on the swing.
Baseball Grip
The baseball grip is similar to the way you would hold a baseball bat, hence the name. Take hold of the club in your left hand and slide your hand to the top of the grip area, perhaps a quarter inch below the top of the club. Wrap your fingers around the club and that includes your left thumb. Put your right hand directly below the left hand. No fingers overlap or interlock, but the two hands will be touching each other. This swing is favored by golfers who enjoy the feeling of freedom when they are swinging.
