Acne can happen on every type of skin, including dry, combination and oily skin types. If acne appears on oily skin, it is usually caused by an overproduction of oils and sebum in the skin, which then becomes clogged inside the pores. To effectively eliminate acne and reduce oil production in the skin, it is helpful to apply skin-balancing products.

Jojoba Oil Cleanser

Jojoba oil is a lightweight, non-comedogenic oil that can bond to the excess oils and sebum inside your pores, enabling them to drain out more easily. By applying jojoba oil regularly to the skin, you can also cause the oil production to slow down in the pores and the skin will feel properly hydrated. To use jojoba oil as a cleanser, spread 1 to 2 tsp. of jojoba oil onto the skin, then massage it in for at least 3 minutes. Then remove the oil using a steaming washcloth. You can use jojoba oil to cleanse the skin twice per day as you would normally use a soap.

Lemon Juice Toner

Lemon juice is an acidic substance that contains high levels of vitamin C, which has the ability to increase the rate at which the dead skin cells slough away and redevelop. When dead skin cells are sloughed away more quickly, it will prevent them from becoming clogged inside the pores and causing excess oil to develop acne breakouts. To apply lemon juice to the skin, you can either splash it onto the skin once you have cleansed it or use a compress. You can create a lemon juice compress by soaking a few cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, then draping them onto the affected areas of skin for 10 to 15 minutes. You can use lemon juice on the skin up to three times per day.

Tea Tree Oil Spot Treatment

Most people use benzoyl peroxide cream to clear their acne, but for people with overly oily skin, using benzoyl peroxide cream can cause the skin to become overly dry, resulting in an increase in oil development to compensate for the lack of hydration. To prevent this, treat acne with tea tree oil, which the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suggests is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream. Dilute the tea tree oil before use by dipping a cotton swab into the oil, then dipping it again into water. You can apply tea tree oil to the skin up to three times per day.
