Acne is a common skin condition that occurs in most people at some point in their lives. Although there are many different skin care products on the market formulated to treat acne, some products are more effective and can clear acne more quickly than others. To get rid of blemishes the fastest, it is important to know which acne-fighting products will clear the skin the best.

Benzoyl Peroxide Creams

Benzoyl peroxide cream is one of the most common and effective acne treatments, and can be purchased in the 10 percent, 5 percent, and 2.5 percent concentrations. Benzoyl peroxide works quickly to eliminate acne by depositing oxygen into the pores, which kills off acne-causing bacteria in the skin. Although it seems logical to use the highest strength benzoyl peroxide cream to eliminate acne more quickly, the higher strength cream, which is 10 percent in concentration, can actually cause the skin to become irritated and inflamed. To clear the skin quickly, it is helpful to use a larger amount of the lowest strength benzoyl peroxide cream, which is the 2.5 percent concentration. Spread a pea-sized amount onto the skin twice per day. If severe redness or burning occurs on the skin after using benzoyl peroxide cream, discontinue use and consult with a dermatologist about the possibility of a contact allergy to the cream.

Salicylic Acid Gel

Salicylic acid gel works to eliminate acne quickly by regulating the rate at which the skin cells are sloughed off and developed. This regulation of the skin cell turnover prevents the skin from becoming clogged, and flushes out any entrapment already existing inside the pores. Spread a pea-sized amount of a 10 percent salicylic acid gel onto the skin twice per day to eliminate acne breakouts quickly.

Tea Tree Oil

Some people are particularly sensitive to chemical acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide cream and salicylic acid gel. Fortunately, the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital has found that tea tree oil can be as effective as chemically-based acne products in clearing acne quickly, but without causing the skin to experience the side effects that are commonly seen when using the chemical products, such as redness, peeling, itching, and burning. To use tea tree oil, combine 8 oz. of water with 5 drops of tea tree oil, then apply it to the skin up to three times per day.
