Body hair affects every man differently. It can be thick and dark, light and sparse, or somewhere in between. If you have decided that the hair must go, there are a number of options you can look into. The best one depends on your personal preference. Each has its own procedure to follow, and some procedures are easier than others.
Step 1
Visit a laser hair removal clinic. A doctor or nurse performs laser hair removal, shooting a laser light onto your skin, where it zeroes in on the melanin that gives your hair its color. The hair follicle then dies, and the hair falls out. Expect to go through several treatments to see favorable results. Laser hair removal is useful for removing back hair.
Step 2
See an electrologist to get your hair zapped permanently. Electrolysis is a procedure where a fine needle is inserted into each hair follicle. An electrical surge of electricity sent to the tip kills the root and causes the hair to fall out. Electrolysis is useful for sporadic neck and and facial hairs.
Step 3
Trim the hair with shears and shave the rest off. Get as close to the skin as possible when you use the shears. Wash your skin with warm water and leave it wet. Apply shaving cream to the areas where you want to remove hair. Take a new razor blade and run it along your skin in short strokes with moderate pressure. Wash off the blade every few strokes, and continue until you've removed all the hair. The face, chest, stomach and legs are areas where this method is best utilized.
Step 4
Remove the hair with the aid of a waxing kit. Apply the wax to your skin with the applicator tool and allow it to set up until it is tacky. Place the cloth strip over the wax and flatten it out until it is smooth. Grab the edge of the strip with one hand and place the fingers of your other hand above it on your skin. Pull off the strip in a fast downward motion. Repeat the procedure in all the areas where you want to remove hair. Waxing is most useful for the back of the neck, a unibrow and the genital area.
Step 5
Dissolve the hair with a depilatory cream. Wash your skin with warm water and apply the cream. Let it set up for the time that the manufacturer recommends; this is generally five to 10 minutes, depending on the brand. Place a damp wash cloth against your skin and wipe the hair off. Repeat the process in all areas where you want to remove hair. Depilatories are particularly useful for the underarms and arms.
Step 6
Pluck hairs that are in small areas. Use a pair of tweezers to remove hair from your eyebrows, nose, knuckles, ears and near your nipples. Place the tweezers close to your skin and pull the hairs straight out in a smooth manner. Do not yank them, or else they can break off.
Tips and Warnings
- If you do not feel comfortable waxing your hair, you can get it done professionally at a spa or salon. Before you use a depilatory on a large area of hair, run a test on your forearm to make sure you do not have an allergic reaction.
- Be aware that waxing is painful. Keep the depilatory cream away from your eyes, mouth or any areas of broken skin.
