Optimism leads to lower levels of stress, which in turn makes you a happier person overall. When you expect the best in life, you succeed more often and see everything in a brighter light. Because stress leads to health issues, such as high blood pressure, a positive attitude can also enhance your health. For some people, a positive attitude doesn't come naturally. The benefits are well worth learning to have a positive outlook.
Step 1
Choose happiness. Force yourself to think positively. A smile and a bright outlook are keys to a positive attitude.
Step 2
Surround yourself with positive people. If you're always hearing negative things, your thoughts will reflect them. Constant negativity leads to a negative attitude. Cut out the negative people in your life, and you will have a better chance of achieving happiness and a positive outlook and attitude.
Step 3
Get over the bad. Bad things will happen. Accept the bad, but don't dwell on it. If you can fix it, do it. If you can't fix it, there's no use worrying about it. Don't let something bad take over your whole perspective. Learn and move on.
Step 4
Do what makes you happy. Make time to treat yourself to something you love. Whether it's a hot bath, a trip to the spa or a walk in the woods, do something that helps lift your mood.
Step 5
Remember that negativity will get you nowhere. When you get into a negative thought cycle, all it does is make you unhappy. It can't fix your problems or make anything better. They are just thoughts, and they have no purpose.
