During the first phase of the South Beach Diet, you are very limited on your carbohydrate intake. This phase lasts for two weeks and involves introducing your body to a very high protein diet. Breakfast can be particularly difficult if you are accustomed to eating bagels and cereal for this meal.

Omelets

Omelets are one of the cornerstones of breakfast when you are following the South Beach Diet. To reduce fat and cholesterol intake, use egg whites or an egg substitute product as your base. Low-fat goat cheese, reduced-fat cheddar and low-fat mozzarella can be used in the omelet creations. Non-starch vegetables can be added as well including mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli and peppers.

Steak and Eggs

If you need a heartier breakfast to start your day, create a plate of steak and eggs. Fatty cuts of beef are not permitted on the diet, but you are allowed to consume sirloin. As a side, scramble two egg whites or use the egg substitute.

Celery and Peanut Butter

If you want a lighter breakfast, spread some peanut butter on celery sticks. Other allowed nuts which can be included in your breakfast are pecans, pistachios and peanuts.

Plain Yogurt

Reduced-fat or plain yogurt is allowed on the diet. You can flavor the yogurt with nuts to give it a little more flavor and some crunch.

Meats

You can eat several meat options for breakfast during the first phase of this low carb diet. The meat can be consumed alone or as an accompaniment to an egg dish. Some meats you can have for breakfast are turkey bacon slices, sliced turkey, boiled ham pieces and Canadian bacon.
