Dr. Dean Ornish is a cardiologist who has written many well known diet books, such as "Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease." On the Ornish diet you focus on removing fats and cholesterol from your diet by eating mostly whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits. The Ornish diet recommends that you consume a diet that is made up of 70 percent carbohydrates, 20 percent proteins and 10 percent fat. There is no calorie counting involved and you are instructed to eat only when you are hungry. On the low fat Ornish diet you are also encouraged to incorporate moderate amounts of exercise, such as walking for 30 to 60 minutes to help aid in weight loss and maintain overall health.
