Boot Camp Training Ideas

Boot camps are becoming increasingly popular among the fitness-minded. These group-exercise sessions provide an intense workout and they are typically less expensive than joining a gym or getting a personal trainer. Boot camps are often a lot of fun because boot camp trainers have many creative ideas for getting their clients into shape.

Butt Kickers

Butt kickers are an aerobic exercise that also works the hamstrings. Perform butt kickers by jogging in place. While jogging, try to bring your heel up to the glutes each time you lift a foot. The goal is to kick the glutes while jogging in place as fast as possible.

Push-ups

The push-up is a classic exercise that is frequently seen in boot camp training. Push-ups strengthen the shoulders, chest and triceps. Lie face down on the ground to perform a push-up. Use your hands to push your body up off the ground. You can increase the difficulty of push-ups by lowering yourself halfway down and holding that position for a few seconds.

Mountain Climbers

Mountain climbers address the chest, shoulders and abdominal muscles. Perform this exercise by starting in push-up position. With a quick jump, bring one knee up near the upper body. Extend the leg and return it to its original position while raising the other knee. Continue to alternate knees for at least one minute. Mountain climbers should be performed at a rapid pace to get the best calorie burn.

Y-Squats

Y-squats are a good boot camp exercise for the lower body. Y-squats work the glutes, hamstrings and quadriceps. Practice this exercise by starting in standing position with your feet about shoulder-width apart. Raise your arms to make the letter Y. Slowly squat down into a sitting position and then return to a standing position. Keep your back straight as your perform this exercise.

Crab Walks

Perform crab walks from a supine position. Use your hands and feet to raise the rest of your body off the ground. While facing up, use your hands and feet to walk forward and backward like a crab. Crab walks are a good boot camp training idea to work the shoulders, back and glutes. Crab walks can be more fun by having crab walk races among boot camp attendees.

Burpees

Burpees are an exercise that will give you a full-body workout. Burpees are executed by starting in push-up position with the feet about hip-width apart. Bend the knees and hop into a squat position. From a squatting position, jump straight up off the ground and raise your hands into the air as high as possible. Come back down into a squat and repeat the exercise.
