This side effect typically subsides shortly after taking this medication but may recur during subsequent doses.
Nausea
While receiving treatment with Biaxin XL, you can experience stomach-related side effects due to this medication. Approximately 3 percent of patients reported experiencing nausea following Biaxin XL treatment in FDA clinical trials for this medication. It is recommended that this medication be taken with food in an effort to limit the occurrence of this side effect.
Diarrhea
During treatment with Biaxin XL, you can experience gastrointestinal-related side effects as a result of this medication. Clinical trials for this medication found that approximately 6 percent of patients experienced mild to moderate diarrhea after taking a dose of Biaxin XL. Diarrhea can cause you to experience frequent bowel movements, which yield loose or watery stools. Additional symptoms associated with diarrhea can include abdominal bloating, pain or cramping.
