The Master Cleanse is not a diet. It is a liquid cleanse, mixing water, lemon, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. The object of The Master Cleanse is to rid your body of toxins and waste, allow for healing, and free up your body to use energy efficiently. You will lose weight, clear up skin issues, and have more focus and clarity than you have had in a long time.
Lemon or Lime
Fresh lemons or lime---while acidic, when they enter your body they become very alkaline. An acidic environment is a breeding ground for yeast, viruses and bacteria. Lemon and lime are both known for their liver cleansing properties as well. You'll need 2 Tbsp per 8-ounce glass of spring water.
Maple Syrup
The Master Cleanse calls for maple syrup---but not just any kind. You need grade B or C organic maple syrup, which will provide calories and essential minerals. Any other grade of syrup is too refined, lacking minerals, and will be mostly sugar. You'll need 2 tablespoons per 8-ounce glass of spring water.
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne pepper is a very powerful herb. Not only will it add a dash of flavor to your Master Cleanse, it will also aid in ridding your body of toxic waste, increase your metabolism, rid the body of bad cholesterol, and improve digestion. CayennePepper.org says that "the effect of cayenne pepper on your body is dramatic." You'll need just a pinch per 8-ounce glass of spring water.
Orange Juice
After using the Master Cleanse for your desired cleansing time, you will "ease in" to regular eating. On day one, post cleanse, orange juice can be consumed. Juice oranges by hand, or with a juicer, and mix with water to taste. Some people add maple syrup to add additional calories and nutrients.
Fruit and Vegtable Juice
The second day after stopping your Master Cleanse you may add vegetable juice to your diet, or you may blend fruit and vegetable juice. You can be creative, and make vegetable broth if you wish. This step will help prepare your body to take in food.
Whole Fruits and Vegtables
The third day after your Master Cleanse you may choose to eat fruits and vegetables. Make sure they are fresh. Eat more vegetables than fruits, as fruit can contain a substantial amount of sugar.
