Wheat germ is the focal point of the wheat seed. The Mayo Clinic says this minuscule germ is packed full of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Wheat germ is often added to casseroles, beverages and baked goods to enhance their nutritional value. It also adds a crunchy texture to food items. Wheat germ has many potential health benefits.

B Vitamins

According to Wheat Germ Benefits.com, wheat germ contains an array of B vitamins including folate, niacin, thiamin, and vitamins B 2 and B 6. Niacin helps change food into energy and enhances circulation. It also works to control cholesterol levels. Other B vitamins including thiamine (B1) are vital for heart health and proper nerve cell function.

Vitamin E

Wheat germ contains vitamin E, an antioxidant that protects red blood cells and helps the body use vitamin K. It may also be a factor in the proper function of the body's immune function, as well as reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease.
