Weight Watchers is an eating and exercise program designed for weight loss and weight maintenance. This diet uses a system of points that you are allotted for each day. Every food that you eat has a set number of points that come out of your total allowed for the day or week. When you exercise, you are able to earn points to add back into your daily allowance. To fully understand how to use the points system, a Weight Watchers membership is recommended.

Step 1

Classify the intensity of your workout as light, moderate or high. Weight Watchers suggests monitoring your breathing and perspiration rates. If you are not sweating at all, consider your intensity light. If you were sweating after 10 minutes of activity and breathing heavier than normal, your workout was moderate. If you were sweating after only a few minutes and unable to carry on a conversation, you were exercising at a high intensity.

Step 2

Hold your Points Booster in one hand and use your other hand to slide the middle section so that the number of minutes that you exercised lines up with the intensity at which you worked out in the left column. Hold the middle section in that position.

Step 3

Look at the right column of the Points Booster and find your current weight. Note which number block lines up best with your weight. This is the number of points that you have earned with your current workout.

Step 4

Add the number of points that you have earned back into your daily allowance of points for the day, up to a maximum of 4 points. If you earned 5 or more points, only add 4 points in for that day.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you do not have a Points Booster, use a Web Points Calculator to figure out how many points you have earned (see Resources). To boost your weight-loss efforts, you do not have to add your earned points back into your daily total. You have the option of adding some or none of them back into your allowed amount of points.
  • Before starting any weight-loss plan, consult your doctor to make sure that it is safe and appropriate for you.
