Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) is an oral prescription medication indicated for the treatment of painful or uncomfortable sensations within the chest--a medical condition called angina. This type of medication works by increasing the amount of blood flow to the heart and is administered as a tablet. Speak with your doctor to discuss the side effects of Imdur before you begin treatment with this medication.
Headache
The most common side effect associated with Imdur use is headache. In clinical trials for this medication, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that approximately 51 percent of 102 patients receiving 60 mg of Imdur experienced headache symptoms caused by this medication. The severity of headache symptoms can be mild to severe and may diminish with recurrent use of this medication.
Dizziness
While receiving treatment with Imdur, you can develop sensations of dizziness or lightheadedness as a side effect of this medication. If such symptoms arise, sit down until these sensations subside. Dizziness or lightheadedness can cause certain patients to faint, which may result in an injury due to falling. Lightheadedness or dizziness can also contribute to side effects of headache or fatigue.
Fatigue
Treatment with Imdur can cause fatigue to occur in certain patients. Abnormal daytime tiredness or sleepiness can cause you to take frequent naps throughout the day, which can impact your ability to complete your normal daily activities. Consider taking your daily dose of Imdur prior to your bedtime each night to avoid experiencing difficulties driving a car or completing work- or school-related tasks due to fatigue.
Muscle Weakness
Better Health Channel, an informational health website established by the Australian government, warns that patients taking Imdur can experience muscle-related side effects. Such side effects are typically mild and can include muscle pain, weakness or tenderness, which may contribute to symptoms of fatigue or headache.
