Building a positive attitude sounds like an easy task, but it is not. Attitude and thought processes tend to be hard-wired, therefore, making it increasingly difficult to change. To build a positive attitude, it takes a lot of time, effort, focus and motivation. It all begins with what you say to yourself. Your thoughts tie directly into your attitude, moods and emotions. Working on becoming more positive in life has great value. Being more positive will help increase motivation, decrease stress and lead to a better overall well-being.

Step 1

Think about how you respond to daily situations, tough experiences and great achievements. Self-awareness is vital in starting to change and build positive attitudes.

Step 2

Track your thoughts for a week in a journal. Make note of your feelings, emotions and moods. Write how your thought processes played into those aspects of yourself. This will create a basis for change.

Step 3

Create a plan of how you are going to adjust your negative thoughts/focuses to positive ones. This will help you follow-through with building a positive attitude. The "how" is the most important step.

Step 4

Monitor your thoughts continuously, as long-term change is where many people tend fall off. Place visual reminders or cues to help prompt you to remain aware of your thoughts.
