What's a party without good food? The snacks served are important elements of a successful party. But often greasy chips, heavy dips, fried cheeses and fat-filled meats are the guests of honor. Healthy foods rarely make an appearance on the list of party grub favorites. Consider these alternatives to the normal party menu, and low-fat foods can be the hit of your next party.

Chicken Wings

Chicken wings definitely have the potential to pack loads of fat and calories. But if you change a few cooking techniques, they can prove to be a deliciously low-fat snack. By simply grilling or broiling wings instead of frying them, you cut out tons of fat. Skip heavy dips like blue cheese or ranch and add flavor by brushing the wings with a low-fat hot sauce, barbecue or teriyaki sauce.

Veggie Slices

Fresh-cut veggies are an easy way to cut down on fatty options at a party. Arrange a tray of carrot slices, celery slices, squash slices, broccoli and cauliflower florets. Serve with a ranch dip made with reduced-fat sour cream.

Kebabs

Use onions, different-colored bell peppers, zucchini, squash and mushrooms to make veggie kebabs. Brush them with olive oil and grill the kebabs for a colorful addition to your party spread. Include chicken or shrimp in half of the kebabs to appeal to everyone's taste.

Bruschetta

Homemade bruschetta will be very pleasing to your guests' taste buds. Serve thinly sliced baguettes topped with pesto and diced tomatoes, and sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on top. Pop them in the broiler for a couple of minutes for toasted treats.

Salsa

Prepare a fresh salsa by combining diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, cilantro and lime juice in a blender. This is the perfect dip for baked tortilla chips, and contains zero fat. You can also experiment with other ingredients for your salsa, like mango, peaches or pineapple.

Hummus

Hummus is a dip made of blended chickpeas. Low in calories and fat, it's a great dip to serve at a party. Paired with baked pita chips, it will have your guests craving more.

Snack Mix

Create your own signature low-fat snack mix by combining unsalted pretzels, corn or whole grain cereals, unsalted peanuts and sunflower seeds. Toss a little caramel corn in the mix for a sweet treat.
