Whether you are getting ready to have your picture taken, to attend a wedding or to go on a first date --- or when you just want to look your best -- the use of a concealer can give you a cover girl look. Concealer not only will improve your appearance, but also provide other benefits as well.

Perfect-Looking Skin

You can use concealer to hide imperfections such as birthmarks, age spots, small scars and blemishes. When applied with a small brush and then lightly tapped with your forefinger, concealer can greatly improve the appearance of your skin. You can make your skin look flawless when you use the right shade of concealer and apply it correctly so that your skin tone looks even.

Dark Circles Disappear

Dark circles under the eyes can make you look tired and older than your age. The use of a concealer on these dark areas can brighten the complexion and give the skin a more youthful appearance. Some concealers contain oils that nourish the delicate skin under the eyes.

Improvement of Features

Concealer can improve the appearance of less-than-perfect features. A light-colored concealer applied to the top surface of a wide, short nose -- from the point between the eyes to the tip of the nose -- can make it appear narrow and elongated. Concealer in a light shade applied to the eyelids and the corners in the eye area makes the eyes stand out and look bigger.

Camouflaged Under-Eye Puffiness

Since puffy skin in the area just under the eyes is lighter in color than the skin around it, a light-colored concealer dabbed on the darker areas makes the puffiness less noticeable. If the puffiness is still obvious after applying a light concealer, apply a darker concealer to the puffy areas and blend the two contrasting shades of concealer to make the touch-up look natural.

Healing

Some concealers include ingredients that treat blemished skin. These types of ingredients have antibacterial properties that can keep blemishes under control. Antioxidant ingredients in some concealers are beneficial to the skin as well.

Sun Protection

Since concealer is a thick makeup that sits on the surface of the skin, concealer acts as a shield against the sun's harmful rays. Concealers that have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher give your skin added protection.
