Shampoo washes away dirt and oil but often leaves behind chemical residues. These residues can leave hair dull or dry. If you use all natural boutique and famous brand herbal shampoos, you can pay upwards of $10 to $20 per bottle. You can make your own shampoo that closely mimics your favorite brand at home for much less money. Not only are these products more economical, they also give you complete control over fragrance and ingredients, giving people with allergies or chemical sensitivities peace of mind.

Step 1

Pour the liquid castile soap into an empty shampoo bottle, using a funnel if necessary.

Step 2

Measure the rosemary into a small bowl. According to Hair Boutique.com, rosemary encourages hair growth and helps clear dandruff. Pour the hot water over the rosemary. Let the rosemary steep in the hot water until the water cools to room temperature. Strain, discarding the rosemary and adding the water to your shampoo bottle.

Step 3

Add the castile soap flakes to the bottle. Liquid castile soap is runnier than traditional shampoo, especially with the addition of the rosemary water, so adding castile soap flakes will thicken the mixture. If you don't have the soap flakes, you can omit them.

Step 4

Invert the bottle gently or use a long instrument, like a chopstick, to gently combine the ingredients. Mix gently enough to avoid creating bubbles.

Step 5

Add the vitamin E oil and essential oils to the bottle. Vitamin E oil moisturizes the hair and scalp, while essential oils allow you to add an aromatherapy element to your blend. Choose essential oils for their scent or their healing properties.

Step 6

Invert the bottle gently again to mix in the oils. You may have to gently invert the bottle before use if the ingredients separate.

  • 2 Tbsp. dried rosemary
