You might notice that from day to day, your sex drive peaks and wanes. This is completely normal, a result of how rested you are, how good you feel about yourself and your body, and your fluctuating hormones. But sometimes, you want to get yourself revved up even if your body is telling you to take the night off. Luckily, there are simple things you can do to boost your libido and keep you and your partner happy in the bedroom.
Step 1
Eat libido-enhancing foods like oysters. A Journal of Human Reproductive Sciences study published in 2009 found that zinc, a major component of oysters, boosts sexual activity in male rats. According to research conducted by Australian biologist George Fisher, oysters also contain two rare amino acids, D-aspartic acid and N-methyl-D-aspartate, that boost sex hormone production and increase libido.
Step 2
Eat spicy foods. Capsaicin, the molecule that makes chili peppers hot, boosts your heart rate and makes your body release endorphins, the same chemicals that your body produces after exercise. They leave you with a natural high that can be conducive to lovemaking.
Step 3
Exercise. Sex drive often wanes when you're not feeling good about your body. Exercise and weight loss can help. Exercise also increases the production of libido-enhancing endorphins. What's more, exercise may ease stress, which can also boost desire.
Step 4
Take supplements of gingko biloba, an herbal remedy produced from the leaves of the gingko biloba tree, and yohimbine, an aphrodisiac that is commonly used in Africa. According to the website Discovery Health, gingko biloba increases blood flow to the brain and sexual organs, and yohimbine is thought to improve male impotence.
Step 5
Exchange massages with your partner. According to Discovery Health, massage can improve sexual arousal particularly if you're stressed, worried or angry. Massages are best done in rooms with soft lighting and calming music.
