5 Things You Need to Know About Chest Fly Exercises

1. Perform Portable Pectoral Exercises

Chest fly exercises are convenient. They're an easy way to work the pectoral muscles without needing a barbell or in some cases even a weightlifting bench. Unlike machines that take up a lot of space and cost a lot of money, you can do chest fly exercises on any bench with a pair of dumbbells or even on the floor. This is a perfect solution for home gyms that don't have a lot of dedicated space for bulky fitness equipment. When you are finished working out, move the dumbbells and bench into a corner and store the dumbbells beneath the bench.

2. Opt for Inexpensive Fitness

All you need for chest fly exercises is a bench and a pair of dumbbells. It is not necessary to invest huge sums of money in a pair of dumbbells. You only need to buy the dumbbell weights in the pounds that you plan to use and then buy heavier dumbbells as your strength increases. An less expensive method is to buy a set of adjustable dumbbells that allow you to adjust the weight of the dumbbells as your needs change.

3. Chest Fly Exercises and Safety

Chest fly exercises are safe compared to barbell bench presses. The reason is that you don't need a spotter to lift the weight when the exercises become too heavy. If the chest fly exercises become too heavy, slowly lower the dumbbells to the floor to avoid injury. If the gym has a protective floor, you may drop the weights to the floor if another lifter is not close to you.

4. Chest Fly Exercises Go High and Low

Chest fly exercises allow you to build strength in the upper to lower pectoral muscles. To work the lower pectorals, use a flat bench when doing chest flies. To hit the upper pectorals, perform the chest flies on an incline bench. The higher the incline, the more the upper pectorals will be worked.

5. Chest Fly Exercises Add Mass

Although bench pressing will add strength, chest flies will add mass to the chest in a different way compared to bench pressing. The reason is that the chest muscles get worked when the arm is moved across the chest. This movement has been known to provide fuller looking chest muscles. Professional body builders utilize chest flies to get their physique into contest form.
