How to Soften Lacrosse Heads

Softening a lacrosse head is important for individuals who are just learning the basics of the sport. It helps them to get the feel of the ball in the pocket, and is good for faceoffs and cradling.

Step 1

Fill a large, clean tub or bucket with hot water. Pour in 1 cup of hair conditioner or fabric softener and mix the solution well.

Step 2

Place the lacrosse head in the bucket and let it sit for at least one hour. Test the head every 20 minutes or so to determine if the head has reached your desired softness. If your head is still not soft enough after a couple of hours of soaking, run some of the conditioner or fabric softener into the head and let it soak another 20 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse the mesh under cold water to remove all the conditioner or fabric softener. Make sure the water from the head is running clear to determine all the buildup has been removed.

Step 4

Let the head dry. Make sure the mesh is spread evenly and is lying flat to minimize drying time. Once the head is dry, use it to string the lacrosse pocket.
