Seaweed wraps are offered at high-end spas and massage therapy centers as way to moisturize the skin. Some spas claim that a seaweed wrap can help you to attain firmer skin, diminishing the look of cellulite, thought there has been no scientific evidence to prove it. A seaweed wrap can cost around $100, but you can try doing it yourself at home for a fraction of the cost. Recruit a friend and swap services so that you both can enjoy seaweed wraps without the high price tag.

Step 1

Cover the area in which you'll apply the seaweed wrap with plastic wrap or bin covers to keep everything clean and dry. Seaweed paste can be sticky and hard to remove from clothing and other surfaces, so protect your tub area and bathroom carefully with plastic before you begin. The bathtub is an ideal place to apply the seaweed wrap, because you can easily rinse everything away.

Step 2

Mix the seaweed paste with hot water to form a smooth paste with a creamy texture. Natural skin care website, Aromantic, suggests mixing 250g of seaweed powder with 200ml of water. Instruct your friend to remover her clothes, lie down in the bathtub, and get comfortable. Offer some rolled up towels for her to relax on.

Step 3

Dip a paintbrush into the seaweed mixture and commence "painting" it onto your subject's body. Use smooth strokes, and cover all areas, avoiding the genitals, eyes, ears, mouth and nose. Start at the heels and work your way up. once the front is done, ask your subject to roll over and complete the back side of the body.

Step 4

Cover your friend with plastic wrap so that the seaweed stays moist on the skin. If you don't have plastic wrap, mist the seaweed occasionally to keep it wet. Lay hot water bottles or a heated blanket over the plastic wrap to heat the mixture for more benefit, recommends BodyWraps.com. If you don't have a heated blanket or hot water bottles, turn on the shower to create warmth and steam.

Step 5

Allow the seaweed to stay on the skin for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes are up, remove the plastic wrap and discard, setting the hot water bottles to the side. Turn on the shower and instruct friend to wash himself off. Offer a washcloth to help remove some of the hardened pieces.
