Many store-bought facial scrubs contain food, natural plants and oils. All of these ingredients can be found right in the grocery aisle. You can whip up a similar, even better facial scrub than what you buy in the store for a fraction of the cost. Facial scrubs freshen your skin and keep it looking younger. By making your own facial scrub, you ensure there are no additives or filters. All of the ingredients are natural and healthy for your skin. The key to making your own facial scrub is buying the right ingredients containing the right vitamins and minerals.
Step 1
Determine your skin type. The kind of facial scrub you'll use depends on what kind of skin you have. You either have dry, oily or normal skin.
Step 2
Make a dry skin facial scrub. If you have dry skin, a brown sugar and lemon facial scrub is the best choice for you. All you need is your normal face wash, one tablespoon brown sugar, and the juice from half a lemon. In a small bowl, add the brown sugar and lemon juice to your face wash. Mix until blended. Wet your face with water, apply the scrub, and gently rub in a circular motion for two minutes. Avoid your eyes, and do not tug on your skin. Rinse with warm water, then clean your face again with your normal face wash. Brown sugar works as an exfoliator. The sugar rubs against your skin, peeling away any dead skin that may be lingering on your face.
Step 3
Make an oily skin facial scrub. If you have oily skin, a strawberry and almond facial scrub is the best choice for you. All you need are five washed, cut strawberries; 1 tbsp. baking powder; 3 tbsp. yogurt; 1/4 cup group almonds; and 1 tsp. lemon juice. Puree three of the strawberries in a food processor, then add all of the other ingredients to the puree and blend until creamy. You can store this facial scrub in your refrigerator for up to three days. To use, wet your face with water and scrub into your face in a circular motion. Again, avoid the eyes. Scrub for two minutes, then clean your face with your normal face wash. Almonds are packed with vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that does wonders for your skin. Vitamin E can heal your skin and protects it from sun damage.
Step 4
Make a normal skin facial scrub. If you have normal skin, then an oatmeal facial scrub is best for you. All you need are 2 tbsp. oatmeal, 2 tbsp. brown sugar, 2 tbsp. aloe vera gel and 1 tsp. lemon juice. Add all of the ingredients to your food processor and blend until smooth. You can store this facial scrub for up to three days in the refrigerator. Again, apply to your face and scrub in a circular motion for two minutes. Rinse with warm water and wash again with your normal face wash. Oatmeal is commonly used as a scrubbing and exfoliating agent. Oatmeal can also reduce acne.
