Program Description
Anxiety is a normal part of life. It motivates us and keeps us from harm. But too much or too frequent anxiety is harmful. It raises blood pressure and heart rate. Anxiety interferes with appetite, either increasing or decreasing it. Reducing overall anxiety is beneficial and can be practiced daily. One method of reducing anxiety is to use your imagination.
Actions
1. Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor.
2. Place your arms and hands on the arms of the chair or relaxed in your lap.
3. Close your eyes.
4. Take a slow deep breath in and out.
5. Imagine that you are slowly walking down a hill on a late Spring day.
6. You are walking very slowly.
7. About half way down you stop.
8. Take a slow deep breath in and out and relax your shoulders.
9. Start walking down hill again.
10. At the bottom of the hill you stop and sit on a bench.
11. After you rest, you get up and go slowly back the way you've come.
12. At the top of the hill you take a deep breath and slowly open your eyes.
