Many acne fighting products on the market are promoted to eliminate acne quickly and effectively, but some of these products work better than others. To clear acne breakouts in a short amount of time, you want to know which acne fighting products will get you the most bang for your buck.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an antibacterial and antimicrobial oil that is extracted in its pure form from the Australian tea tree plant. According to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital's Department of Dermatology, tea tree oil can be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream, but it will not cause the same side effects of itching, redness and burning. For people who are particularly sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil is an effective alternative acne-fighting treatment. To use tea tree oil on acne, it should be diluted into a solution that consists of 8 oz. of water and 5 drops of tea tree oil. Soak a cotton ball in the solution, and apply it to the acne breakouts up to three times per day.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid gel clears acne breakouts by helping balance out the speed that the skin cells are developed and sloughed away. When the skin cells are more regulated, it prevents the skin from creating a build-up of dead skin cells, which can become clogged inside the pores and cause acne. Salicylic acid gel does not cause severe side effects. If redness, swelling or inflammation develops, it should be discontinued. To apply the salicylic acid gel, spread a dime-sized amount of the gel onto your skin twice per day after cleansing.
Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl peroxide cream delivers oxygen directly into the pores, which kills the bacteria that causes acne. There are many strengths of benzoyl peroxide cream, including 2.5 percent, 5 percent and 10 percent concentrations. For severe acne breakouts, it can be helpful to use the highest strength 10 percent cream, which can help dry up and eliminate cysts and nodules more quickly than the lower strength creams can. For moderate acne breakouts, the 5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream can be effective without causing the skin to become too dry. For mild acne, only the 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream is needed to clear the skin. Use a dime-sized amount of benzoyl peroxide cream twice per day after cleansing.
