1. Refined Sugars Are Prevalent in Most Foods
Just because something tastes good doesn't mean that it is actually good for you. You might be surprised how many foods you consume daily that contain high amounts of refined sugars. You many think that you are eating a balanced and healthy diet, but the foods you are eating are filled with refined sugars. Refined sugars are high-fructose corn syrup, sugar, brown sugar and corn syrup, just to name a few. These refined sugars can be found in most all foods that are highly processed and tend to be in most pre-packaged foods.
2. Refined Sugars Are Highly Acidic
Refined sugars are very acidic. And because the body needs to be in an alkaline environment, it will steal calcium from bones in order to create a non-acidic environment, which causes the bones to become brittle and leads to many bone disorders. You must know that an acidic environment will decrease your body's ability to absorb the nutrients that it needs. It will also decrease your body's ability to repair damaged cells and the ability to detoxify heavy metals.
3. Refined Sugars Affect Health
In addition to throwing the body into an acidic state, refined sugars may cause a number of other significant health problems in the body. It is know that consuming a diet high in refined sugars is related to depressing the immune system, causing a mineral imbalance in the body, contributes to hyperactivity, anxiety, depression and concentration difficulties especially in children. Many times just by limiting the refined sugar intake there is a significant improvement in the relation to overall health of the body.
4. Refined Sugars Cause Nutrient Deficiencies
Refined sugars are empty-calorie foods that contain no fiber, no minerals, no proteins, no fats and no enzymes. Refined sugars that are found in cakes, candies, and sodas do deliver the body energy but few other nutrients, if any at all. In comparison, foods such as whole grains, vegetables, legumes and fruits contain some natural sugars, starches and fibers, which all help to deliver energy to the body, along with other nutrients to maintain the body in a state of homeostasis.
5. Refined Sugars Are Addictive
It has been said that refined sugars are just as addictive as a lethal or over-the-counter drugs if consumed in large quantities. If you are addicted to refined sugars, you are not alone, as there are many people that tend to have an addiction to refined sugars and are not even aware that they are. Over consumption of refined sugars in any form initially brings pleasure to the taste buds which acts like a drug addiction. The body was not designed to ingest refined sugars and especially not in the quantities that most consume.
