Ringworm is a fungus that can be contracted on the skin, scalp or face. If not treated immediately, the ringworm fungus can burrow deeper into the dermal skin layers and spread to other areas of the body. While prescription drugs are available to treat the fungus, these drugs can be expensive. Luckily, there are a few less-expensive minerals available that have also proven to be effective in the treatment of ringworm.

Sodium Chlorite

According to a product distributed by PGL International LLC, the Miracle Mineral Solution is a sodium chlorite chemical compound made up of minerals that directly attack the ringworm fungus while also protecting the patient's surrounding skin layers. This chemical compound is usually taken in a large dosage in order to remain in the body for enough time to be broken down into table salt, which is another compound that assists the body's immune system functionality. While not sanctioned by the FDA, the MMS is gaining much popularity among alternative medicine doctors for an array of physical ailments, diseases and disorders.

Magnesium

Often used as a dietary supplement in many different multivitamin compounds and formulas, magnesium may also hold therapeutic qualities that can be used for the treatment of ringworm. According to Mother Earth Minerals, magnesium is usually taken by heart patients who suffer from heart palpitations or cardiac muscle weakness, however this mineral may also strengthen skin texture and immune system quality. As a result, the ringworm fungus can be more easily treated by topical creams or ointments usually found at a local drugstore.

Potassium

Found in many different fruits and multivitamin compounds and formulas, potassium has been known for numerous health benefits. According to Mother Earth Minerals, potassium works with sodium, cobalt, oxygen and hydrogen on the cellular level to produce a vast array of biological transmutations--naturally producing vitamins for health and well-being. Coupled with an over-the-counter topical cream for skin rashes, potassium can also assist in the treatment of ringworm. As with any medical treatment, however, patients should first check with his or her family doctor prior to taking any mineral supplement.
