The choices for artificial supplements and new aids to weight loss can be overwhelming. There are pills, powders, herbs, diets, machines, applications, and the list goes on. Yet, the simple truth about losing weight stays the same: you need to eat fewer calories than you expend, consistently, over time. The quality of your food intake, you efforts at burning calories, and your ability to stay the course are all things you can control naturally to help you lose weight.

Eating Clean

Clean eating is a diet style which features wholesome foods in healthy balance and encourages eating items in as close as possible to their natural state. Doing so will eliminate many of the foods and preparations that are blamed for today's overweight societies, including fast and processed foods. The clean eating lifestyle focuses on lean proteins, whole grains, produce and legumes, simply prepared. This helps people lose weight naturally because it steers clear of refined sugars and flours, trans fats, sweetened sodas and alcohol, as detailed in the overview of "Clean Eating" magazine. The "Dietary Guidelines for Americans," published by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture concurs, stating "The healthiest way to reduce calorie intake is to reduce one's intake of added sugars, fats, and alcohol, which all provide calories but few or no essential nutrients."

Being Active

You need to expend more energy than you consume in calories to lose weight. A physically active lifestyle offers natural benefits that will promote your every day calorie burn. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, playing outside with your children, dancing with your spouse, carrying a heavy backpack to your car, or taking care of your own yard work, are all examples of ways you can become more active, naturally. "Dietary Guidelines for Americans" lists calorie burn estimates for a variety of activities based on a 154 lb. person. Dancing and light gardening are listed at over 300 calories an hour, for example. While not a foolproof gauge for individual metabolisms, these numbers demonstrate the extra weight loss help you miss out on if you settle for a sedentary lifestyle.

Enjoying Yourself

There is nothing more natural than nature, be it human nature and the joy of relationships or Mother Nature and the joy of the great outdoors. If ignoring personal pleasures while trying to lose weight, you might find yourself seeking solace in former routines which sabotage your own progress. Eating clean and healthy foods shouldn't take all the fun out of your week, for example. Occasional "cheat days" are often employed by fitness professionals and dietitians, to ensure that the road to weight loss is not cut short by feelings of denial. Extracting enjoyment out of your food is still possible even without regular deep-fried or sugar-laden selections. Find all the healthy, clean foods you love and learn to season and prepare them in ways that make you and your loved ones want to eat them by choice, not as a restriction. The same holds true for physical activity. Few things can replace the mental and physical benefits of fresh air, sunshine, a cool breeze or wooded trail. Losing weight is easier when you stay the course of physical exercise, and staying the course is easier when you enjoy your surroundings. Maximize the natural resistance of the elements outdoors, on your walks, runs or bike rides.
