Underarm wetness is a problem that isn't easily hidden. It's apparent by the dampness in your clothing or the unpleasant odor that often accompanies it. Warm weather can cause you to sweat, as can stressful situations. Since these situations often can't be avoided, your best course of action is to be armed with the information to know how to handle it. There are several things you can do to prevent underarm wetness, helping you to avoid uncomfortable situations.
Step 1
Take cool showers to help cool your body off. This also affords you the opportunity to get clean. Use an antibacterial soap to help eliminate any bacteria that may be contributing to an unwanted odor. When sweat mixes with bacteria on the skin it creates a smell that those around you will notice. Pat your skin dry with a soft clean dry towel.
Step 2
Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Tight clothes don't allow air to get to your body and can cause you to sweat more. Dark-colored clothing can absorb heat, making you feel much warmer and causing you to sweat more.
Step 3
Take extra effort to stay in a cool place. Avoid standing outside in the sunshine if possible and keep the heat turned down. The cooler you can keep your body, the smaller chance of sweating. A clean cloth soaked in cool water can be applied to your skin to help lower your body temperature.
Step 4
Apply baking soda under your arms instead of deodorant. Baking soda absorbs moisture and odors and can help to keep you dry. Carry some to work with you and reapply it throughout the day to keep you dry.
Step 5
Drink six to eight glasses of water daily to help keep you body hydrated, thus keeping you cooler. Caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate your body and should be avoided. Caffeine consumed in excess can also lead to anxiety, which can make you sweat, so drink caffeine in moderation or opt for decaffeinated coffee instead.
