The main lubricant of lemongrass comes from a process of steam distillation from fresh and partly dried out lemongrass. The amber and yellow colored, citrus scented oil that is exacted is then stored in stainless steel containers. Lemongrass was originally grown in India alone, but is now developed in other countries of varying climates.

Hundreds of cosmetic companies merchandise includes lemongrass as one of its components. This oil can be found in everything from animal pest killer to anti-perspiration products. The reason deodorant carries this ingredient is because lemongrass oil helps alleviate excess sweating. This is why facial cleansers that consist of lemongrass oil are effective in the fight against acne.

Acne is caused by the infection that sets in after a pimple ruptures that was formed by dirt, grease and oil on your skin. Lemongrass oil can be added to your water when you bath to remove excess oil from your skin. Blending a few drops of lemongrass oil with a half filled container of warm water and applying directly to your skin and to acne break outs after cleaning is a very effective way to clear up acne.

Lemongrass Oil as an Astringent

Lemongrass oil has unique antifungal, antimicrobial and antiseptic chemical make-up that allows it to be an amazing astringent. With lemongrass oil in a toner or cleanser it assists the product with tightening and firming the skin. When lemongrass oil acts as an astringent it is also is very active in contracting pores while forming a barrier of hard tissue under your skin to protect against harmful agents found in the atmosphere.

By adding a few drops in your bath or a diffuser, lemongrass oil can act as a powerful instrument in combating stress. Even placing the bottle under your nose while you slowly inhale and exhale deeply can help calm the body, relieving stress and tension. This breathing method is also useful in energizing a tired body. The more alert your body is, the better it can fend out acne.

Whenever vital oils are applied, only a little is needed as they can be harmful if too powerful an application is used. Lemongrass oil is no different, and few drops should be disbursed to avoid doing harm to your skin. Lemongrass oil should never be ingested unless directed by your primary care physician, and should be used with extreme caution if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
