Hair setting lotions are designed to add gloss and moisture to hair, making it easier to style. They can also help set curls and hairstyles, creating a look that can last all day. You can buy hair setting lotions at drugstores or beauty stores, but you can also make them at home with natural ingredients, such as honey and lemon juice. These ingredients can add natural moisture, volume and shine.

Setting Lotion for Regular Hair

Step 1

Combine 4 tbsp. of olive oil and 2 tbsp. of honey in a bowl.

Step 2

Mix until the ingredients are blended well. Let the mixture sit for three to four minutes.

Step 3

Rub the setting lotion into dry hair. Wrap your hair in a towel or shower cap and allow the lotion to set for one hour.

Step 4

Shampoo and rinse your hair, then proceed with styling.

Setting Lotion for Dry or Flaky Hair

Step 1

Combine ½ cup of distilled water, 1 tbsp. of lemon juice and 1 tsp. of honey in a bowl.

Step 2

Add 5 drops of essential oil to the bowl.

Step 3

Mix the ingredients thoroughly.

Step 4

Apply the mixture to damp hair before styling.

Tips and Warnings

  • You can store homemade setting lotions in the refrigerator for future use. Allow the setting lotion to come to room temperature before using it, so it will be easier to work with. You can use maple syrup instead of honey if you have a honey allergy.
