A baseball glove is a treasured tool of the trade for any baseball player. An infielder's baseball glove is a very personal piece of the equipment. It is usually somewhat smaller than an outfielder's glove so the player can dig the ball out of the glove a bit quicker, then throw it to first base for an out. An infielder needs to break in a glove properly for that glove to perform the way the player wants it to.

Step 1

Use shaving cream on the palm and fingers of the glove to make the leather supple and easy to mold. Put two generous squirts of shaving cream in the palm of the glove and work it into the glove's surface for about five to 10 minutes.

Step 2

Take a baseball and put it in the palm of the glove. Wrap the gloves fingers tightly around the baseball, then push the thumb portion of the glove down on the fingers. Take a rope and tie the baseball glove with the baseball in it and leave it in that position for eight hours.

Step 3

Untie the glove, then go out and play catch with it for at least 15 minutes. Try to make sure you are playing with somebody who can throw fairly hard and make the glove pop when the ball hits the glove.

Step 4

Rub glove oil in the palm of the glove after you finish playing catch. Two generous squirts of glove oil in the palm are plenty, and rub it all over the catching surface of the glove. Take a dry towel and wipe off the excess oil. Put a baseball in the palm of the glove and wrap it with a rope. Leave it in that condition for another eight hours.

Step 5

Untie the glove and play a game of baseball. Your glove is now game ready. You should be able to open and close it fairly easily and the more you use it, the easier your glove will become to use.
