The sugar crystals in sugar scrubs have an abrasive quality that works to exfoliate and rejuvinate the skin. While commercially available in beauty and cosmetic departments, an easy and less inexpensive sugar scrub can be made at home. A sugar scrub is a combination of any good quality, cold-pressed oil and regular table sugar or even brown sugar. Other ingredients, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, essential oils or fragrances, vitamin C or E, shea or coconut butter, glycerin or aloe vera gel can also be added. Sugar scrubs can be as simple or fancy as your heart desires.

Step 1

Combine the almond oil, gel and vitamin E in a bowl.

Step 2

Add the glycerin and aloe vera gel to the almond oil mixture.

Step 3

Add the sugar to the almond oil blend, stirrng constantly. For a more liquid and lotion-like form, add less sugar. For a stiffer product, add more sugar.

Step 4

Place your sugar scrub in a plastic or glass container with a lid. A container that is dark or opaque glass or plastic will keep the scrub fresher longer. If refrigerated, this scrub will keep for months.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup table sugar
  • 1/2 cup almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin
  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
  • Bowl
  • Glass or plastic container
