Combine any quality cold-pressed oil and a coarse- or fine-grained salt, and you have an easy and inexpensive salt scrub that can be made at home. The crystals in a salt scrub act as an effective exfoliator, removing dead skin cells and revealing fresher, healthier-looking skin. A salt scrub can be as basic or as elaborate as you want. Add other ingredients, including aloe vera, essential oils, fragrances, spices, vitamins or glycerin to create a salt scrub that is uniquely your own.

Step 1

Combine the olive oil and vitamin E thoroughly in a mixing bowl. Both are oils and will blend easily.

Step 2

Add the glycerin. Glycerin will not mix well with the oils, but combine them as thoroughly as possible. These ingredients will combine more thoroughly as the salt is added.

Step 3

Stir the mixture and slowly add the sea salt. Continue to add the salt, stopping when the mixture has reached the desired consistency. For a more thinner, liquid scrub, add less salt. For a thicker and stiffer scrub, add more salt.

Step 4

Store the salt scrub in a glass jar or plastic container with a lid. The salt scrub will remain fresher for a longer period if kept in a dark or opaque container. Refrigerate your salt scrub to keep it fresh for months.

Things You'll Need

  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • 1 tbsp. vitamin E
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. glycerin
  • 1 cup coarse sea salt
  • Glass or plastic container
