Acne is a painful and embarrassing skin condition that causes the skin to erupt in swollen, itchy pustules. Because the bacteria inside acne pustules causes pus to form inside the pores, pressure can build under the skin and can cause the skin to feel itchy and uncomfortable. This lead many people to pop or pick acne, resulting in facial scarring. Luckily, there are a few substances that can help eliminate both acne pustules and scarring.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is a non-comedogenic oil that can be applied to the skin to flush out the pores, and soften scarred skin cells so that they can be removed more easily. Since castor oil is especially purgative, it is helpful in flushing out impurities and bacteria from the pores to eliminate blackheads and drain out pus. To apply castor oil to flush out the skin and soften scarred tissues, massage 1 tsp. of castor oil into your skin using small, circular motions, then place a steaming washcloth onto your skin to open the pores. After the cloth cools, use it to wipe away the oil. Castor oil can be used on the skin up to two times per day to empty your pores and loosen acne scar tissue.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is highly acidic, and contains large amounts of vitamin C. When used on the skin, lemon juice can help increase skin cell turnover, which increases the rate at which dead skin cells are sloughed away while speeding up the rate at which new skin cells are developed. Because of this, using lemon juice on the skin can keep your pores clear, while helping slough off scarred skin cells more quickly. To apply lemon juice on your skin, soak five cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, then place them onto your skin. Allow the pads to remain on your skin for at least 10 minutes, then remove them to let the skin dry. Lemon juice can be used on the skin up to three times per day.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is an antibacterial oil that can be used on the skin to remove bacteria that causes acne, and to reduce the redness associated with scarring. Before using tea tree oil on your skin, it is important to dilute the oil into a 5 percent solution. This can be accomplished by pouring 8 oz. of water into an empty bottle, then adding five drops of pure tea tree oil into the water. Soak a cotton ball in the solution, and apply it to your skin up to three times per day.
