Bath fizzies are little packages of fun at bath time. When dropped into warm water, the fizzies dissolve and begin to bubble, releasing essential oils and fragrances of your choice into your bath. Bath fizzies use a chemical reaction between baking soda and citric acid to produce the fizzing effect. With a simple combination of ingredients, you can create your own bath fizzies. Most of the ingredients can be found in any kitchen. Citric acid can be obtained from wine-making supply stores or online. Essential oils can also be found online or at craft or health stores.
Step 1
Place the citric acid, cornstarch and baking soda in the measuring cup and mix thoroughly. Pour the mixture into the sieve and work it through with a spoon into the bowl.
Step 2
Add several drops of food coloring to the water in the spray bottle and mix thoroughly. Spray the dry mixture in the bowl lightly with colored water, stirring as you spray. Spray just enough to dampen the mixture so that it will pack together, but not so much that it begins to react and fizz.
Step 3
Add several drops of your choice of essential oils or fragrances to the mixture. Continue to mix the ingredients until all are completely combined. If the mixture begins to dry out, spray with more water.
Step 4
Fill each compartment in the ice cube tray quickly with the mixture and pack it down firmly as tightly as possible. Allow the mixture to dry at room temperature for 24 hours, until completely hard. Gently remove the hardened fizzies and place them in a glass jar for storage.
