There are many different types of cleansers on the market, and it can be difficult to know which facial cleansers are the most effective in treating the skin. Whether you have oily, sensitive or dry skin, there is an effective and beneficial cleanser available to clean your skin the proper way.

Natural Soap

Natural soap will be free of chemicals that can irritate and inflame the skin. People who suffer from acne-prone or sensitive skin types that have especially reactive skin can benefit from using a chemical-free, natural soap. Avoid soaps that contain artificial perfumes and dyes, preservatives or petroleum-based substances. Instead, look for soaps created with basic ingredients, like coconut oil or olive oil. To apply a natural soap, wet your skin and lather it gently with the natural soap. After the lather has been spread over the entire area, rinse it off well with water. A natural soap can be used twice per day.

Non-Comedogenic Oils

Many people do not realize that non-comedogenic oils can be used on the skin in order to flush out the pores and balance out oil production. People who suffer from an over production of skin oils can benefit from using a non-comedogenic oil, which will "trick" the skin into thinking that the skin is already properly hydrated, and will thereby reduce oil production. To apply an oil to the skin, spread 1 to 2 tsp. of a non-comedogenic oil onto the skin, such as jojoba, olive or castor oil. Massage the oil in for at least two minutes, then place a steaming washcloth over the area. Allow the cloth to cool, then use the washcloth to wipe away the oil. An oil cleanser can be used once per day.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is both highly cleansing and highly soothing to the skin, and can be used as an effective cleanser that can benefit people with dry or sensitive skin types. It is important when using oatmeal as a cleanser to only use raw, ground oats, and to avoid oatmeal that contain any other ingredients, such as coloring, flavorings, sugars, or preservatives. To apply oatmeal as a cleanser, pour 1/2 cup of raw, ground oats into a bowl, and pour 1 cup of boiling water onto it. Wait until it cools down completely, then spread the oatmeal onto wet skin. Use your fingers to gently massage the oatmeal into your skin for three minutes, then rinse off the oatmeal with warm water. An oatmeal cleanser can be applied three times per day.
