Steam baths help to open the pores and remove impurities, increase circulation and moisturize the skin. Taking a steam bath a couple of times a week can help improve the texture and appearance of your skin, creating a healthy glow. Steam baths also can help relieve tension and stiffness in the muscles and joints and relieve sinus congestion. Most people go to an expensive spa to have a steam, but you can create a spalike experience right in your own bathroom.

Step 1

Close the bathroom door and place a rolled-up towel at the base to block any steam from escaping or cold air from coming in. If there are windows in the bathroom, make sure they are tightly sealed.

Step 2

Turn on the shower at very high heat to begin with. You will turn it down later when you get in.

Step 3

Let the room fill with steam.

Step 4

Turn the water temperature down once the room has filled with steam. If you have a bathtub, you might choose to run a bath. If not, you can take a shower.

Step 5

Using a loofah and some moisturizing body wash, gently exfoliate the skin. Massage the skin in circles to increase circulation.

Step 6

Breathe deeply to let the steam clear your sinuses.

Step 7

Rinse any soap from your skin, exit the shower and gently pat your skin dry with a towel.

Step 8

Apply a rich moisturizer to your skin while there is still steam in the room.
