It's not unusual for people to complain about their jobs and what they perceive to be wrong with their bosses and/or coworkers. You don't have to be miserable at work. Developing a positive attitude can make the time spent in the workplace more enjoyable and potentially bring you greater success.
Attitude Adjustment
Step 1
Adopt a "Can Do" attitude on the job. A "No Can Do'' frame of mind can prove to be toxic in the workplace and hamper the morale of your co-workers. Stop wasting your time and your employer's talking about why something can't be accomplished. Focus instead on how you can complete a task.
Step 2
Promise yourself that you will not complain at work. Keep in mind that grumbling and criticizing only serves to keep you in a funk. Complaining gives you a reputation as not being a team player and may hurt your chances of advancement. Look for solutions rather than problems.
Step 3
Focus on the positive aspects of your job. Write down what you enjoy most about your job and your work environment. Consider how to change the things you don't like to make your work experience more positive.
Action Steps
Step 1
Go the extra mile. A willingness to work hard and go above and beyond from time to time shows that you take pride in your work. This can make you feel good about yourself, and make your boss feel good about you. Keep in mind that when it comes to success, there are no shortcuts.
Step 2
Arrive at work rested and ready to seize the day. It can be hard to maintain a positive attitude when you haven't slept well the night before. Get regular exercise and eat a healthy diet.
Step 3
Show enthusiasm. Getting excited about the task at hand can be contagious. Your excitement can help improve the energy in your workplace. Smiling often will give you an emotional lift and communicate to your co-workers and to your boss that you genuinely enjoy your job.
Step 4
Rejoice in your victories on the job as well as those of your co-workers. If you're part of a team that has successfully accomplished a project, plan a party to celebrate its completion.
