Caloric Contents of Glucerna

Glucerna is a line of food products that help maintain blood sugar and are marketed towards people with diabetes. There are several products in the line, including different sizes of shakes and different sizes of meal replacement or snack bars. Glucerna products differ from other nutrition shakes because they are, according to the manufacturer, designed with ow glycemic ingredients that will not spike blood sugar.

Shakes

Glucerna shakes come in four flavors---Creamy Chocolate Delight, Homemade Vanilla, Strawberries 'N Cream and Butter Pecan. Each 8-oz serving of the shakes contains 200 calories. On a diabetic food plan, each shake should be counted as one starch, one low-fat milk and one fat.

Snack Bars

Glucerna snack bars contain 150 calories per 1.41-oz bar. Flavors include blueberry, caramel nut and chocolate caramel.

Mini Snack Bars

Glucerna mini snack bars are about .7 oz each and are available in oatmeal raisin, chocolate peanut and cinnamon bun. Each bar contains 80 calories.

Meal Replacement Bars

Meal replacement bars are available in chocolate chunk and chocolate peanut flavors. Each bar 2-oz bar has 220 calories. Diabetics should count each bar as two starch servings, 1/2 lean meat serving and one fat serving.

Snack Shake

Glucerna snack shakes come in chocolate and vanilla flavors. Each 8-oz serving has 140 calories. These shakes differ from the meal replacement shakes because they contain less protein and less fat.
