A receding hairline is caused by falling hair. This is a common dermatological complaint that can cause loss of self-esteem and confidence, translating to problems in your social life and work. Your hair can fall out due to several reasons. These include an unhealthy diet, stress, chemicals (hair styling products) and hormonal imbalance. Fortunately, there are ways you can help prevent a receding hairline.
Step 1
Eat one to two servings of healthy foods, rich in protein, to help prevent a receding hairline. Your hair is mainly made up of a fibrous protein called keratin. When your body is low in protein, cells begin to deteriorate, causing rapid hair loss and speeding up the aging process. Consuming enough protein will help keep your hair strong. Healthy dietary sources of protein include beans, lentils, broccoli and tofu.
Step 2
Eat one to two servings of foods rich in iron to help maintain your blood iron levels to prevent a receding hairline. The red blood cells in your body use iron to bring oxygen to all your organs. The hair follicles in your scalp use and need oxygen to maintain hair growth. Healthy foods rich in iron include dark leafy green vegetables, nuts, lentils and bran flakes.
Step 3
Consume Vitamin B6 in supplement form every day to prevent a receding hairline. Vitamin B6 helps maintain your nails, skin and hair. Make sure to take this supplement as directed on the bottle or by your physician. Avoid taking Vitamin B6 in excess of the recommended dosage, since an overdose can be toxic and lead to nerve damage.
Step 4
Massage your scalp for 10 minutes twice daily, especially when shampooing and before going to bed. Massaging your scalp will stimulate blood flow in that area and keep it healthy, which will maintain healthy hair growth.
