Losing weight seems to be one of the hardest things to accomplish for many people. If you're getting ready for summer bathing suit season, you need a way to shed those pounds quickly. But make sure you're losing weight in a safe way, because "fad" diets can lead not only to gaining the weight back just as quickly as you lost it, but also to negative health effects.
Eat Right
One of the first and best things you can do is change your eating habits. Many people gain weight because they eat more calories than they burn day after day. Limiting the number of calories you consume and making sure those calories come from nutritious foods can trigger fat-loss in your body. According to the American Heart Association, drastically changing your eating patterns is not only a surefire way to fail at your diet, but it can be unhealthy for your body as well. Cut calories gradually so your body has an opportunity to adjust.
Stick to natural foods, such as fruits, vegetables and fresh, lean protein. Fresh food is easier for your body to process quickly. Avoid processed foods as they are laden with chemicals and preservatives that your body has trouble digesting.
Exercise
To burn the excess fat your body is storing, you have to burn calories. According to the Mayo Clinic, cardiovascular exercise is one of the best and quickest ways to burn calories and fat. It matters less what you do and more that you just get moving. Do anything to get your heart pumping: go for a brisk walk, jog, run on a treadmill or hop on an elliptical trainer. If you get your heart pumping, it will start to burn off your excess fat in no time. For best results, engage in cardio exercise 60 to 90 minutes most days of the week to lose weight, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
How much weight you lose does not always correlate with how hard or long you work out. You can actually lose less weight by working out too much, as your body will reverse the weight loss process if it feels it is not getting enough calories in to compensate for the amount of calories expended. For the best and quickest results, consult your doctor and come up with an exercise plan that fits your body and activity level.
Drink Water
According to CNN, drinking lots of water can help you lose weight. Many people seeking to lose extra pounds are actually retaining several pounds of water weight. As you drink more water, your body flushes out the extra water, resulting in the shedding of pounds. Your metabolism also depends partly on the amount of water you drink, so drinking more water will help your metabolism function properly and burn fat. Drink at least 64 oz. of water daily.
