Growing out long and luxurious hair isn't always easy. Your hair typically grows at a rate of a half an inch a month. However, it is only with proper care and treatment of your hair that you'll see long locks fast. Otherwise they'll break, split, fall out or become damaged, leaving you with short hair for good.
Step 1
Have your hair trimmed every six weeks. This will remove split ends and damaged hair and will prevent that damage from traveling up the shaft of the hair. It might seem counterproductive to have your hair trimmed, but preventing the spread of damage will ensure the hair you do grow is healthy and can sustain being long.
Step 2
Don't blow-dry your hair or only do so on occasion. Heat can damage your hair and cause it to break and split. When blow-drying, flat-ironing or using a curling iron, apply a serum to protect your hair from heat first.
Step 3
Avoid tight hairstyles that pull the hair taut at the scalp. Anything that pulls excessively on your hair can pull your hair right out, preventing you from growing long hair fast.
Step 4
Choose products that are suited for your hair type. Use a shampoo and conditioner for dry or damaged hair, oily hair, color-treated hair, etc. Avoid using excessive hair gels, sprays and mousses in order to keep your scalp healthy.
Step 5
Maintain a nutritious diet filled with protein, like eggs, fish, lean meats, tofu and dairy. Because hair itself is protein, these foods help keep your hair looking shiny and healthy. To supplement your diet, take a multivitamin each day to ensure you're getting all the nutrients you need.
