If you're playing on an outdoor court, a chain basketball net may be your best option. A chain net can generally withstand the elements, especially if its plated in zinc, and will last far longer than a standard nylon basketball net. Setting up a chain basketball net is the same process as installing a nylon net and can be completed in a few simple steps.
Step 1
Obtain a chain basketball net that matches the size of your steel basketball rim. A standard basketball rim measures 18 inches in diameter and possesses 12 spiral hooks. A chain net matching a regulation rim will feature 12 matching loops.
Step 2
Spread the chain net out and identify the top and bottom. You'll notice two large openings, one of them quite a bit wider than the other. The wide opening is the top of the steel basketball net, and the smaller opening is the bottom. You'll also notice 12 loops circling the top of the chain net.
Step 3
Place the first loop over one of the spiral hooks on the basketball rim. It doesn't matter which hook or loop you choose to begin with.
Step 4
Continue placing the chain net's loops over the spiral hooks of the rim, one by one, in order. If you happen to get to the last loop on the net but still have one or two empty spiral hooks, you've probably missed a hook somewhere along the way.
Step 5
Pull down forcefully on the chain net to secure it in place. Test the net out by shooting a basketball through the rim several times.
