Facials are an ideal way to purify, cleanse and moisturize your skin; however, facials that are applied at salons and spas can be notoriously expensive. When you don't have extra to spend on pampering yourself at the spa, try making your own homemade facials with common ingredients you likely already have around the home. You'll still get the pampering and relaxation you would at a spa, but you'll save money. Cucumbers, yogurt and honey combine to make a soothing mask for tired skin.
Step 1
Prepare your skin for the facial by using the power of steam to open your pores. Put a pot of water on the stove on medium heat, and place three or four slices of lemon in the water. Lemon is ideal for clarifying applications, notes HealthGuidance.com. When the water begins to simmer, remove from heat and make a tent over the pot with a towel. Place your head under the tent so that the steam is trapped inside, and stay there for up to five minutes.
Step 2
Warm a tablespoon of honey in the microwave for 20 seconds and remove. Cut a cucumber lengthwise in half, and use a fork or cheese grater to gently scrape out the inside of the cucumber until you have roughly one teaspoon. Then, mix the honey and the cucumber with a tablespoon of plan, unflavored yogurt and stir to combine.
Step 3
Apply the mask to your face with a spatula or your fingers, taking care to avoid your eyes and nose. Leave on for at least five minutes, but longer if desired. The combination of ingredients can help clear your pores, and leave your skin feeling soothed and hydrate, notes Sara Wells of OurBestBites.com
Step 4
Wash the mask off with warm water, patting your skin dry. Discard the rest of the facial mixture, and moisturize your skin after. To moisturize in the natural way, apply a teaspoon of olive oil to your skin with your fingers, rubbing in small circular motions until the oil has been absorbed.
