Sweet almond oil is the ideal oil to have in your medicine cabinet or beauty arsenal and is one of the most popular oils for masseuses. It has a mild, yet extremely emollient quality, notes the MassageTherapy101 website, making it ideal to help you glide your hands over a client's weary body during a massage. It has a non-greasy feel and is perfect for mixing with essential oils to bring about certain reactions while giving a massage--relaxation, energy or well-being--and can be easily purchased at beauty supply stores and drugstores.

Step 1

Place 1 tbsp. or more of sweet almond oil into a glass dish. Place a few drops of your favorite essential oil in the dish; mix well with a small spatula. The Beauty Indobase website notes that because almond oil has only a light scent, it is an ideal carrier lotion for other, more fragrant essential oils. Try lavender for relaxation, orange or mint for energizing or rosemary for a savory scent.

Step 2

Warm the oil gently in the microwave for no more than 30 seconds. Test the oil by rubbing some on the back of your hand before you apply it to your client during the massage, to make sure that the oil is not too hot for the skin. If it seems too warm, allow it to cool a few moments before you begin the massage.

Step 3

Rub the sweet almond oil onto your hands before you begin smoothing them over your client through the massage. As the skin absorbs the sweet almond oil, as it is apt to do, add more to your hands or dribble some directly onto your client's body.

Step 4

Use sweet almond oil as a lubricant when you give hot stone massages. Heat the stones as normal, but coat them in sweet almond oil beforehand, or apply the almond oil to your client before introducing the hot stones. The oil will help the stones slide around more easily for a more relaxing massage.

Step 5

Rub the sweet almond oil into the skin as you finish the massage. Because it is so emollient, the skin should absorb it readily, with no need to wash it off. Store the remaining sweet almond oil in an airtight container for the next massage.
