If you are prone to oily hair, it can make your hair look flat and weighed down. When you have fine hair, you have more hairs on your head and this makes you more prone to the condition due to the large number of oil glands. Humidity, hormonal changes and stress also can make you prone to oily hair. Changing the way that you care for your hair can remedy oily hair.
Step 1
Choose a shampoo specially formulated for oily hair. For instance, a clarifying shampoo does not contain a lot of extra ingredients that can weigh hair down. This type of shampoo can remove the oil and not leave behind any residue.
Step 2
Leave the shampoo in place for five minutes. Do not rinse the shampoo off right after lathering. Use hot water to rinse away the shampoo residue.
Step 3
Skip the conditioner. Putting on a conditioner can cover the hair in oil and give it a greasy look.
Step 4
Soak a cotton ball with witch hazel. Witch hazel is an astringent that can help dry up any excess oil. Use the cotton ball to apply the witch hazel to all area of the scalp after showering.
Step 5
Use a hair pick to get rid of knots. Limit the amount of time you spend brushing if you suffer from oily hair. When you brush, the oil from the scalp moves down into the rest of the hair shaft. If you do use a brush, lift the hair up and brush in an upward motion.
