Acne can erupt anywhere on the skin, including on the face, neck, chest and back. When back acne appears, it can be difficult to treat because of its hard-to-reach location. This can result in infection and acne scarring. Acne scars and discolorations on the back can cause the back to look blotchy and unsightly. Luckily, acne scars on your back can be treated easily by utilizing a back scratching device that will enable you to reach the affected areas to soften the scarred tissues, remove discolored skin cells and increase the rate at which new skin cells can develop.
Step 1
Soften scarred tissues on your back using castor oil. Attach a washcloth to the end of a back scratcher using a rubber band. Soak the washcloth in castor oil. Spread the oil liberally onto your back and allow it to remain there for at least 10 minutes. Soak in a hot bathtub filled with water for five minutes to allow the pores to open and drain. Use the washcloth to wipe away any remaining oil. Repeat twice per day.
Step 2
Remove dead skin cells and softened skin discolorations on your back using a baking soda scrub. Attach a washcloth to the end of a back scratcher using a rubber band. Soak the washcloth in water, and pour 2 tbsp. of baking soda onto the washcloth. Spread the wet baking soda around your back using circular motions for three minutes, then rinse off your skin with water. Repeat twice per day after soaking the skin with castor oil.
Step 3
Increase skin cell turnover on your back using lemon juice, which is high in vitamin C. Attach a washcloth to the end of a back scratcher using a rubber band. Soak the washcloth with concentrated lemon juice and spread the lemon juice around your back, covering it completely. Allow your back to dry naturally. Repeat twice per day after exfoliating.
Tips and Warnings
- Castor oil is a highly purgative oil that will not clog your pores when used on the back to soften acne scars. When applying the castor oil, it is important to allow the oil to sit on your skin for at least 10 minutes to help the dead, scarred skin cells to soften and loosen sufficiently. Baking soda is an alkaline substance that is comprised of rounded particulates that can remove softened skin cells easily without scratching or damaging the skin. Avoid rubbing the baking soda onto your back too aggressively. Use a gentle touch and slow movements. Lemon juice is naturally high in vitamin C, which can increase the speed that the skin cells turn over. Increased skin cell turnover helps slough off dead, scarred skin cells more quickly, while encouraging new skin cells to develop at a faster rate. This helps the skin return to a more evenly toned state more quickly.
