Acne breakouts and blemishes can occur anywhere on the body, including on the chest, neck, back and on specific areas of the face. When acne is localized around the chin only, it makes it difficult to use chemically produced acne treatments, as it can be dangerous for them to be ingested accidentally. Fortunately, acne around the chin can be cleared effectively by applying a few natural skin care treatments. If you follow a routine that cleanses, exfoliates and eliminates bacteria, you will help your chin return to its naturally clear state.
Step 1
Cleanse your chin with a natural soap. Wet your skin well with water, and lather your hands by rubbing the natural soap in between them. Apply the lather to the chin, and gently rub it around for one minute. Rinse off your skin with warm water. Repeat two times per day.
Step 2
Exfoliate your skin with a baking soda scrub. Combine 1 tbsp. baking soda with 1 tsp. water. Spread the paste onto your moistened skin. Massage the paste onto your chin gently. Use slow, circular finger movements for three minutes. Rinse your chin off with warm water. Repeat two times per day after cleansing your skin with the natural soap.
Step 3
Kill off acne-causing bacteria on your chin with tea tree oil. Dip the end of a cotton swab in tea tree oil, then again into water. Spread the diluted tea tree oil around the chin, allowing the oil to soak in completely. Repeat twice per day after exfoliating your skin.
Tips and Warnings
- Standard commercially made facial soaps can contain chemical additives that can irritate and inflame the skin, such as artificial perfumes, dyes, sodium lauryl sulfate and petroleum-based ingredients. Natural, fragrance-free soaps will use basic ingredients, like coconut oil or olive oil, and will not irritate or inflame the skin. Baking soda is a mildly abrasive substance that can exfoliate dead skin cells and bacteria to prevent them from clogging the pores. When applying baking soda to the chin, it is important to avoid scrubbing the skin too aggressively, which can cause irritation. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective acne treatments, but it contains strong chemicals that should not be applied around the mouth area. Luckily, the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital's Department of Dermatology suggests that tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide, but that it will not be dangerous when applied near the mouth.
