Some women begin may feeling signs and symptoms of pregnancy about a week before they miss their period. Not all women will experience the same symptoms of pregnancy, and symptoms may differ from those of a previous pregnancy. There are several common symptoms that you may experience early in your pregnancy.
Tender or Swollen Breasts
At one to two weeks after conception, you may begin to experience tender or swollen breasts. This tenderness can be similar to or worse than the breast discomfort you may get prior to your monthly period. This is caused by the rapid increase in hormones during pregnancy. You may also notice changes in your breasts. The areola may appear darker and larger in size. Some women may also notice the appearance of blue veins on breast tissue. Wearing a supportive bra during this time will help minimize breast discomfort.
Implantation Bleeding and Cramping
Implantation bleeding can be one of the earliest pregnancy symptoms, reports the American Pregnancy Association. As the embryo attaches to the wall of the uterus, some mild bleeding or spotting can occur. You may also experience mild uterine cramping during this time. This bleeding is usually lighter in color and shorter in duration than a normal menstrual period. Not all women will experience implantation bleeding.
Nausea and Vomiting
According to the American Pregnancy Association, these well-known pregnancy symptoms will often show up between two to eight weeks after conception. It occurs because of the rise in estrogen associated with pregnancy. Estrogen slows the gastrointestinal system and may lead to nausea and vomiting. Many women will suffer from nausea and vomiting throughout the first trimester, and most experience relief by the second trimester.
Fatigue
Fatigue may appear as early as one week after conception. You may feel a bit more tired or sleepy than usual. Make sure you get enough sleep nightly and take a daily nap if possible to keep up your energy.
